Santiago is a dynamic, bustling city with a lively feel. One in three Chilean is from the city and in many ways the new optimism and confidence of Santiago embodies the progressive nature of modern Chile. There are good museums, many attractive parks, renovated city center neighbourhoods and not far from the city are several ski resorts, some of the country's oldest vineyards, and the Maipu Canyon - where there is white water rafting and horse riding.

Most travel itineraries for Chile start and finish in Santiago and pass through it as almost all flights between any two towns in Chile connect at Santiago airport. If you come to Chile to see the spectacular scenery, Santiago will not be a priority but if you are interested in the history, culture and day to day of Chile then it is worth spending a few days here.
