day 2: Sugar Loaf & City Tour

Your guide will meet you in the morning at the hotel and take you towards the world famous landmark, Sugar Loaf Mountain. Over a million tourists a year visit the iconic Pão de Açúcar, or Sugar Loaf Mountain in English, which has become a symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Rising up from a small peninsula at the entrance of Guanabara Bay, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined sugar loaf. (Half day tour)

day 3: Christ the Redeemer

A guide will meet you in the morning to take you on a tour that encompasses the most famous iconic image of Brazil. After a scenic drive along Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon you arrive at the bottom of the Corcovado Hill. Take the train which climbs the mountain to the statue of Christ the Redeemer, located (2300ft above sea level). The Christ statue known as the “Wonder of Rio” was recently elected one of the 7 winners of the "New Wonders of the World ". The view from the top affords a spectacular panoramic vista of Rio de Janeiro. (Half day tour)

day 4: Rio at leisure
day 5: Rio to the Gold Coast

A driver will collect you from the hotel lobby after breakfast and take you out of the city along the coast to the colonial town of Paraty where your driver will drop you off at the luxury pousada on the beach.

day 6 - 9: Paraty & the Gold Coast

A tropical hideaway among stunning natural surroundings in a calm and sheltered cove on Brazil's fabulous coastline between Rio and Sao Paulo. Pousada Picinguaba is a traditional converted fazenda in a tiny fishing village surrounded by tropical rainforest and mountainous peaks. The hotel is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty within a protected national park. All the guest rooms have stunning views over the bay or gardens. Sail to deserted islands on the hotel’s very own 40ft schooner, picnic on secluded beaches, enjoy mouth-watering local cuisine, hike within the forest to natural pools, bathe in nearby waterfalls and visit the nearby colonial town of Paraty. Other activities include fishing, hiking, sailing, kayaking and surfing.

Paraty was the richest town in Brazil during the 17th and 18th centuries. Its wealth came first from the gold boom and then from coffee. Later on, better access to the gold mines of Minas Gerais was gained further north through Rio precipitating a long decline in Paraty’s fortunes. However, this became a saving grace for its architectural heritage which remained safe from industrialization and urbanization that took place in many other larger towns.

day 10: International Departure

A driver will meet you in the hotel lobby and take you to Rio international airport for your return flight.
