Holidays in Argentina

Argentina typically conjures up images of cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, the vast Pampas, the natural wonders of Iguazu falls in the tropics and the Perito Moreno glacier in Patagonia. But there is so much more to the country than these deservedly renowned highlights.

In this vast territory there are regions like Salta in the North West, the Iberá Wetlands and Bahia Bustamante, still not firmly on the tourist map, waiting to be explored.

When to Travel

Argentina is the 8th largest country in the world country and has a corresponding range of climates. The country can be visited all year round, although if you plan to go to the far south of Patagonia the warmest months are from November to March. These are consequently the most popular months to visit.

Visiting outside the summer months has its advantages, namely: fewer people at the tourist hotspots like Iguazu and the Perito Moreno glacier; higher water level at the Iguazu Falls; and lower rates generally for accommodation and flights. April and May see the Lake District at ist most colourful as the forests light up all shades of autumn.

Seasons & Dates

Ski season is from August to September. Aim for the middle for best snow. Grape harvest or "Vendimia" is during March and April with the northern vineyards in Cafayate starting first. This is a great time to visit the main wine producing areas like Mendoza and Cafayate. The locals celebrate the harvest in style with many traditional festivities. Fishing: there is great fly fishing in the rivers of Patagonia from December through to end of March.
